Opening night of "The Secret Garden."
AMAZING!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
Everything worked! It was beautiful. The cookie (sadly) didn't hit the oboe player. The topiary worked!! Oh, it was amazing.
I sat on stage during the prolouge and felt such an adrenaline rush of finally being on stage, under the lights, in front of an audience...and I thought to myself, "This...this is why I love theatre."
Standing ovation!! Just...so beautiful. Nearly cried.
And we're going to Findlay tomorrow...Lucy & Brady's Crew. Cannot wait!
The real story was after the show...the Mt. Union APsiO cast.
They got lost coming to campus and came in about 15 minutes late...late enough to miss my aria in the beginning (aka my expositioning). Either way, they made it. I got a carnation from Brittany...I was so excited! I'm in the receiving line and don't know who is who. All of a sudden, a friendly face comes up to me, opens his arms, and says, "Hi! We're Mount Union!" I felt like I was greeting old family. There were seven of them...four guys and three girls. The coolest people in the world!
It turned out to be a cast night. We ordered two sheet pizzas and sat in the Little Theatre for an hour just talking with everyone. We took Mt. Union down to the catacombs to see everything. They loved it. David and Seth hooked up Donkey Konga and we played for a bit. After that, Mt. Union wanted to see our theatre space, so we showed them all of Gundlach, including the shop and the lighting booth. Then we decided to go up to the costume room. (By this time, it's me, Jenna, Davey, David, and Jena.) Oh, my Lord...the best laughs I've had in a long time. We had to have been in the costume room for at least an hour just talking and playing with costumes.
Did not want them to leave at all. We all gave hugs...it was like saying good-bye to family. But we're going up to see their show in November. Ideally we'll be there on a Friday because they said we could crash for the night in their (get this) THEATRE HOUSE. How damn cool! They're still an hour away from Mt. Union. Lucky...they're already on fall break. I wish they could have spent the night...but we got class and such.
The rest of the weekend is proving to be fun already. I see a trip to Wal-Mart and the library, plus going to Findlay tomorrow. Seth N. is coming to the show on Saturday. Mike B. is supposed to be coming this weekend. I hope he makes it. My family is coming Sunday and hopefully Leslie, too. Plus everyone else in the meantime.
What a wonderful opening night! It's true...theatre is love.
