Celebration of Life

Oct 06, 2006 04:22

I fell asleep in my clothes at 3am, woke up at 10:30 and skipped my 10am class. I got over to the Celebration of Life just before it started, speech in hand. I was going to be the first student speaker.

There was a marvelous turnout...Dr. Dottavio, Dean Troha, whole Education faculty, students, staff, Christi's family, children, etc.

DK's first speech got me misty, as did the music. I smiled when then children read "Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand." By the time it was my turn, I was misty again, but was trying my best to keep from crying.

Yeah...that didn't happen.

I said my name and starte to bawl, apologizing to everyone. Mrs. Grine came to give me a hug and was patting my shoulder as DK fed me kleenex. I bawled through the entire speech...I could barely understand what I was saying. I got half of the celebration in tears.

After my speech, I sulked back to my seat...right next to Dr. Dottavio.

Many people came up to me afterwards and congratulated me on a wonderful speech, making such comments as, "Next time, we'll give you an easier topic." Mrs. Grine had the nerve to tell me that I was chosen to go first because I have a "strong voice" and "look what happened." lol...I laugh, but I didn't need to hear that.
