And So... Kamishimoemon takes note of his son.
Notes: Companion to
Meet the Parents Kamishimoemon had given up on the drunken conversation of farmers and merchants, instead settling back down against an old oak to watch his eldest son from afar. Another sip of sake would send heat coursing through his veins, making him wonder if it was good that he was drunk at the moment. Uki was finally off his back, for the first time having a husband to worry over instead of a father or little brother. Kamishimoemon chuckled to himself, remembering that he had used that corny saying of how he wasn’t "losing a daughter" that day so much as he was "getting another son."
Speaking of sons, his eldest had returned, though no one suspected that Sagara Sanosuke was such. Kamishimoemon had been busy the past day setting up the party (procuring enough booze for the event without his daughter knowing) and had paid Sano little mind. Sure, he was glad to see the boy again... deep down under his smoldering rage that always seemed to be present whenever Sano was concerned. But this was Uki’s day, and that was that. Now that the day was turning to night, Kamishimoemon could finally turn his attention to his idiot offspring and his strange companion.
The other man-what was his name even? Sano never said-wasn’t strange in the serial killer or third nipple sense. No, actually the man was quite regal and had stood out among the peasants and farmers at the wedding. He was dignified, polite with the other guests, and even refrained from drinking. He wasn't, however, above giving Sano hell about his drinking. This man was strange in the fact that he was even associated with someone such as Sano in the first place.
It was true; Sano was not the little boy Kamishimoemon had once tucked into bed or given hell about not tying up a horse correctly. Sano had shown that the last time they met five years ago with that fist of his. It was likely that in order to gain such a fist, Sano had a met a multitude of characters along his journey. That still didn’t explain why this man had come with Sano all these miles to a young farmer girl’s wedding in the styx. The middle of a dusty field was the last place his amber eyes belonged.
So, Kamishimoemon sat and watched, trying to solve the riddle.
