Something Scary, Something Blue

My friend tagged me in a Facebook note today concerning a girl we knew in high school. What was written scared the shit out of me, and I felt everyone deserved a chance to comment on it.

Begin Note:

I realized yesterday that an old friend from high school is a religious whack-a-doo biggot. Some of you saw how she responded to my note and my status update.

(My status update)

"For those of you who still beleive that gays don't have the right to marry: I promise that in 20 years (hopefully sooner), you will be just as ashamed of thinking the way that you do about homosexuality as the old, racist bastards that tried to stop blacks from voting and interracial marriage. Don't blame your opinion on your religion anymore; it's a dead end."

Here is her response and many other subsequent responses

Note: Sometimes her responses might seem like a response to a cruel attack but she is actually just reinterpreting what we told her. I have many Christian friends that believe gays have a right to be married and to not be treated like sinners for how they were born. All of our posts are still up because I blocked Katy's. I still had hers in my email so here they are.

The words of Katy Larkins

It's not about "blaming" it on a religion... It's about one man and one woman, and the covenant of marriage... THE WAY GOD INTENDED

On divorce... The bible also states the a man should be respectful and an an equal part in the marriage, although the husband is still the leader, therefore the wife needs to be submissive. If either of these are broken, then it is like breaking the terms of a contract, that contract being marriage. If you ask those christians who have been divorced, I bet 99% of them will say they went into the marriage, expecting that marriage to last...

But what do ALL those "gods" believe for marriage, oh yes, I believe it was ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN! Also, believing in a higher power does not make you self-centered, nor moronic. It gives you peace in a time of war, strength in a time of weakness, hope in a time of peril... It is beyond anything you can find in this world...

So marriage is only a piece of paper then?? There are no promises or VOWS made in a marriage? Hmm, no wonder the divorce rate is so high in this country..

God still loves gays, I never said anything different than that. But homosexuality is a sin nonetheless. You don't have to agree with me. You are granted the right to your own opinion...

I never said I was "all-knowing" by any means...

However, how do you take these verses? I think they are pretty cut and dry on gay marriage:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Look, I have nothing against gays, as a people. It is just my belief, my faith, that marriage is not meant for gays. It is meant for one man and one woman, who vow IN THE NAME OF GOD to love each other through thick and thin...

Not a physical death, but an eternal spiritual death, yes I do. Unless they ask for forgiveness of their sin and attempt to live a Christ-like life. I love my gay friends, but I not go to them for moral advice because I know that they are not my brothers in Christ, and are therefore incapable of giving me a Godly answer.

;And I guess you'll be able to see those people in hell... Have a nice evening everyone.

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:23-24

So now you're telling me what exactly the bible verse is saying? I'm sorry, I'm a little confused... I thought the bible was open to your own interpretation? Isn't that what you just "educated" me on? And you telling me that Christ would be ashamed of me shows me just exactly how closed-minded you're being...

The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open.

Oh and let me guess... you think God is a woman too right? Wow....

And yes I do think for myself... I have lived a life full of sin, and still God was in my heart.

Secondly, the men that wrote the bible walked with Jesus himself the true meaning of perfect and tell of his stories and what we should all strive to be like... There is nothing vein about that!!!

"Which is where? Oh yes, in the old testament. Before Jesus walked the Earth."

Did you write any of the stories??

Then how do you know when they were written? Sounds like your ancestor's played a bit of telephone themselves...

So anyone who believes what the bible says and follows God's Word is closed-minded now?? Hmmm interesting...

So it's okay to follow the bible, just so long as you choose what rules you would like to follow?? Yeah, I lived like that. It doesn't turn out well... Trust me.

"Look, you have your beliefs and I have mine. I don't put you down for not believing in God. My mama didn't raise no fool. So please give me the same respect."

"I'm neither full of hate nor fear. Just because I refuse to believe what you believe in does not make me a bad person. I do not wish bad on anyone, but I do have my beliefs. Without beliefs, a person is nothing."

(Katy's even crazier friend)

"KATY IS RIGHT ON WHEN SHE TALKS ABOUT ETERNITY AND WHO WILL GO TO HEAVEN---YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN-----OUR DESIRE SHOULD B THAT NO-ONE PERISHES BUT THAT PEOPLE WANT TOCHANGE HIS OR HER WAYS -- AND B SET APART FRROM THE THINGS OF THE EARTH...."

"OH AND SOMETHING ELSE-- ONE CAN TRULY ONLY UNDERSTAND GOD'S WORD ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN IMPOWERED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT......"

facebook, scary
