Warnings: Blood and legitimate Brotherhood game shattering spoilers. Yup, it’s time he knows.
Effects: Feelings of accomplishment quickly replaced by deep dread and sorrow. One hell of a giant headache after watching this dream
Notes: This is the scene I tried to condense is
here. Also, this is a character's update dream, so Desmond will be updated to the end of the Brotherhood game (I'll put up more information on his profile meme in a bit).
[The video feed starts with a glitch, the screen jumbling until it shows the inside of Desmond's club. The owner's there, cleaning up the few tables left while whistling lightly. It's clear that he’s not aware of the Dreamberry broadcasting this. As he moves closer to the device to drop dirty glasses on the bartop, he gasps and visibly winces, barely managing to put down the glasses. One hand raises to his forehead and the young man keeps his eyes closed, though pain is written all over his face. He groans and leans against the counter, and the feed glitches again, this time a whole new world building blocks by blocks around Desmond, changing the bar to a dark, underground room.]
He's back in his world again, and Desmond knows this place. He's seen it in Ezio's memories, it's under the Coliseum in Rome, it's where the Italian Assassin has hidden the Apple after getting it back from Cesare. And there it is, in the center of the room, resting on a platform away from him and his team. He looks back at Lucy, smiling: "Let's find out where are those temples." And so saying, he drops to the lower platform to active the energy system that will let them get to the Apple platform.
As he jumps from a ledge to another, following the blue trail that leads to the right switch, he sees her again. The same ghostly apparition that's been following him ever since he entered the Assassin Lair. Desmond can't help but frown: he tries as much as he can to not listen to what she's telling him, but it’s hard and a few words hit home.
"When the world became undone, we tried to pass it through the blood, to join you to us. You see the blue shimmer, you hear the words. But you do not know. WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT YOU AS YOU WERE!"
Desmond nearly loses his hold as the woman-like voice yells. Pulling himself on the ledge, he slows down his breathing, frowning. It's easy for him to make the connection that the 'apparition' is another trick from Those Who Came Before, just like Minerva was, in that temple underneath the Vatican. Trying as much as he could to push away the slight feeling of dread settling in his stomach, the novice pushes forward.
"It is hard to stay contained, knowing as we do. We wait for you, Desmond. You will come here. You will activate it. You will only know when it is too late."
It's the fact that the woman knows his name that unnerves him the most and this time, he needs to know he’s not the only one that heard this.
"Have you guys heard any of this?"
"Heard any of what, Desmond?"
As the Assassin joins his team back on the platform, he shakes his head, in his usual 'nevermind' fashion. Maybe he's having another Bleeding Effect episode? He turns around as stairs reveal themselves from the ground and there’s a brief feeling of relief that courses through him: "We did it."
By his side, Lucy sighs too, a small, carefully hopeful smile on her lips: "I can't believe we're finally here."
They all walk to the Piece of Eden, debating what's next to do, but the artifact chooses for them, and symbols start to be projected all over the walls and ceiling of the temple. In the back of his mind, Desmond can hear Shaun trying to decipher them, but the Apple fascinates him and he walks closer to it, unable to stop himself from reaching for it. It's then that time stops entirely, and that he realizes that this moment is the 'too late' moment Juno was speaking of instants ago.
"What's happening?!? I..I can't move!"
"Your DNA communes with the Apple. You have activate it."
"Let me go!"
"On the 72th day before the moment of awakening. You, birthed from our loins and the loins of our enemies, the end and the beginning, who we abhor and honor. The final journey commences."
The novice isn’t sure he totally understands what Juno means, but he keeps struggling against her hold, barely listening to more of her words, to her telling of him needing a 'she'. But the false Goddess forces him to turn around and the blade strapped at his left wrist is flicked off.
"No! What are you doing?"
She speaks of sacrifice, of scales needing to be balanced, but all Desmond can focus on is his feet moving towards Lucy despite himself. He panics, not wanting this to be true, not wanting this to end up like he thinks it will. But still, her influence is too much and he moves closer and closer to his team leader and he can already choke with fear.
"No! Please!"
He pleads, but deep down he knows it's not going to change anything. He's already close enough and his left arm pulls back and he wants to close his eyes and shut his mind down, but it's impossible.
"No!"
His protests are no use and the Hidden Blade is driven forward into Lucy's stomach. Despite being frozen in time, she looks up at him and Desmond gasps, wanting to move again so he will stop feeling her warm blood slipping through his fingers.
"It is done. The way lies all before you. Only she remains to be found. Awaken the sixth. ALONE!"
Something in his mind seems to break and the screen goes black as he falls down to the ground.
[The feed glitches again and it shows the inside of 'L’Horizon' once again. Though this time, Desmond is holding his head with two hands.]
No...Lucy...
[This is too much for his mind even in this world and as he tries to take a step forward, he collapses to the ground, the sound of chairs scrapping the floor and clattering fills the club as he does so. In his fall, he's managed to bring down his Dreamberry and the device rolls a few times before stopping on his comatose form on the floor. 30 seconds, a minute, 5 minutes pass and Desmond doesn't move. After a full 10 minutes of broadcast of his unmoving form, the Dreamberry shuts down by itself.]
