[each physical blow that Desmond experiences in the dream seems to transfer over, though exactly how isn't something Isabelle is worrying about; she's been stabbed before, and while it's not precisely pleasant, it's something she can deal with. Biting her lip slightly to contain the quiet noises of pain she would never voice as she watches the dream, seemingly riveted to the constant stream of images, she almost doesn't know what to say when it all ends, her throat tight before she finally manages to force out something:]

[There's a small sigh of defeat that can heard before Desmond grabs his phone. There's an acted shrug of carelessness before he gives her a small smirk that is far from reaching his eyes. It's obvious he's lying here.]

Hey. Remind me to never eat Mexican food before going to bed. I obviously can't handle it well.

[too bad Isabelle lives with Jace; she can smell bs a mile away, and when it comes to things like this, she's willing to call it, too. Her voice is shaking slightly for the first few words, steadying as she continues; her brows are knitted in pure concern.]

You're kidding, right? There- [a pause, to calm herself; she's worried, dammit.] There's no way that was just Mexican food.

[His heart sinks in his chest, because he can hear the concern in Isabelle's voice and as much as his team mates always tiptoe around his mental health issues, it reminds him of how Becca used to look at him in the morning. Of all the Modern Day Assassin, she's the only one that never takes his bullshit either.

Desmond chuckles dryly, knowing he can't evade this with Izzy any longer]

Well, I'm sure it didn't help. [He shrugs another time] Fine, I'll admit it. I'm mentally unstable and have frequent violent nightmares that involves past lives.

[While he sounds like he's jesting, this is the utter truth]

[she gives him a weak laugh at the first comment, running her fingers through her hair nervously before beginning to fidget with it. She doesn't want to discount anything he says, but at the same time...

[But regardless, she feels the same way about this as she would if it were one of her brothers.]

Just because you have nightmares doesn't make you mentally unstable.

[He opens his mouth to protest, but closes it. She's right, in his case the nightmares are just a symptom of his mental instability.]

I...well....yeah, but still. No one in their right frame of mind have nightmares this bad, no?

That doesn't mean anything. [she still doesn't believe him, and she is vehement in this belief. Nightmares, probably; crazy? Not at all.]

Does it actually say anywhere that you're mentally unstable, or are you self-diagnosing because you think you should be?

[Desmond doesn't know what to think about her denial concerning his mental state. Part of him wants to believe her so badly, because no one wants to slowly go crazy. The other part is slowly starting to resign himself to the same fate Subject sixteen went through, because it would at least mean he got enough in the Animus to get to the Apple.

He shifts uncomfortably for a moment]

No, there's nowhere that's saying that. I just...well...it's complicated?

[she just regards him silently for a moment before slowly nodding; if it's not a topic he wants to discuss, then Izzy isn't going to force him to.]

[Okay, he might be mentally flailing here. He hasn't meant to push her away like this. Not when, with Jessamine, she's the only one he trusts outside of his team mates.]
