Name: Miranda Lotto
Age: 26 (born 01/01/1984 in Stuttgart, Germany)
Job: Writer
Alliance: Noah
Appearance
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 120lb (she's sturdier than your cannon Miranda)
Eyes: Brown (human)/Gold (Noah), dark circles underneath in either form
Hair: Just below her shoulders, dark brown/black and slightly curly- usually in a ponytail when working
Scars: She has two short but deep and slightly jagged scars on each side of her lower, inner hip (near the arteries there), as well as one that's similarly deep but surgically straight, about one inch long, just below the nape of her neck. From general DR scuffles, her chest and arms have some light scarring, accented by the rare harsher mark.
Clothing: Generally she dresses in nicer everyday wear (blouses and skirts/T-shirts and skinny jeans, etc) that flatter her figure. For events with the Earl and other Noah, dresses anywhere from a slinky dress to a business suit, depending on the formality of the situation.
History (Past): After Allen sealed the Earl away, the Order took back her Innocence. For her part, Miranda returned to her home town and tried to put what confidence she'd found to use. ...It didn't work. Eventually, with her friends and only way to be useful gone, she committed suicide. (Yes I know it's a prominent theme with her, but the poor girl is crazy >.o; )
History (Current): Miranda's life, until recently, was relatively mundane (see timeline, below, for details). As in her previous life, she grew up in a tumultuous home and had trouble finding a place where she could fit in and be useful, be it at home, work or school. Unlike her previous life, however, her suffering and low self-esteem provided her with a wellspring of stories and the motivation to write as a means of escape. After many false starts she became a moderately successful author but never felt... complete; like she was always missing something huge from both her life and stories. Before becoming a Noah, she didn't even know there was such a thing as exorcists, and knew (knows) nothing of her past life.
Shortly after Suman's death, Road (in human guise) approached her with the promise to grant her what she wanted most. Thinking it simply a game, but answering truthfully, she said what she wanted most was "her own way"- that is to say, choice. A few days later she woke up bleeding from her forehead, and a few weeks after that became Noah's Pleasure. After undergoing the traumatic awakening process, the last thing on Miranda's mind was the fact that her wish had been granted literally. (The fact that she now had a loving, accepting family to welcome her didn't hurt matters either.) To prevent any "traitorous" impulses from arising within her, the memories of her previous life have been carefully suppressed via magic (not that she knows this), and on missions she was kept away from any exorcists she previously knew. After coming to the DR, she met almost all of them. She employes her talent as a writer for the Noah's cause under the pseudonym of "Ophelia Orwell," as well as fighting using her Noah abilities. She has also spent time
fighting wars in the Middle East with Sokaro. She travels frequently now that she works for the Earl, and thoroughly enjoys it.
Personality: Miranda's gotten much better with her confidence, but still has a nasty habit of worrying over-much. Once engaged in battle she delights in causing her foes pain almost as much as Road; she taunts, she teases, she twists and she tortures before delivering the final blow. However, she will not prolong a fight just to cause more pain, if there's a chance she might lose. Miranda may be prone to starting fights occasionally, but she's cautious once they're started. Despite her sadism, she makes sure to set aside time to act as a "normal" human- this is often when she writes her non-propaganda literature, under the pen name of "Juliet Zeitmacher." Unlike Joyd's previous host, however, she does not cling to this human side of her as a necessity (anymore), merely a fun diversion- she'd chose the family over it in a heartbeat, or so she tells herself. Generally speaking, she is more "black" (sadistic, aggressive) when speaking with someone she dislikes/views as prey, and "white" (canon!Miranda-ish) when around those she likes/family. The lines are not concrete by any means, and are still prone to changing even within the context of a conversation at times. In terms of being the Noah of "Pleasure," she is flat-out hedonistic. She enjoys a good meal, roll in the hay, smoke, or even occasional night spent reading by herself or fixing a clock.
Powers: Miranda's fighting style is focused on speed and physical flexibility. She can control her phasing completely (she couldn't at first) and has a large number of monstrous Teez at her disposal in addition to the regular ones; she can make them explode and form them into weapons and sheilds. Miranda can also do the standard "dark matter" attack with her hands. She knows how to "reject" the air in an area/create a void, as well as choose whether up to ten seconds of time per hour affect her or others. Although not exactly a "power" per se, Miranda can speak and write fluent English and German (both Swäbisch (Swabian) and Hochdeutsch ("high German") dialects) and knows a smattering of Arabic.
Notes for the Psychics/Magically or Spiritually sensitive: Most of the time Miranda's thoughts are pretty much what you'd expect of her, varying by situation. It's fairly easy to tell she's a Noah because of how she thinks of other Noah as family, and Joyd is active enough now to actually be a noticeable presence/"voice" in her head. THE BIGGEST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW is about the seal on her memories that the Earl put there. It's like one huge ball of magic so psychics probably won't be able to tell, and odds are even if you can or are magically sensitive, you won't be able to tell what it's for. It's slowly being worn away by Joyd as well (it's about half gone now) if that's of any concern. Most of her dreams are pretty mundane, although occasionally she will dream memories of her past life.
Timeline:
1984: Born in Stuttgart, Germany.
Age 3: Mother suffers miscarriage. Parents divorce, mother gets custody of her and her older brother, Marcus. Father moves to East Berlin.
Age 5: Starts school. Proves to be a smart enough student but the other kids dislike her, make fun of her, etc. for her clumsiness/stuttering and her father's Soviet alliance, despite the fall of the Berlin Wall later that year.
Age 8: A visit to München prompts her to develop a fascination with clocks; collecting/restoring them remains a lifelong hobby even if she's not so good at the latter part.
Age 11: Shown to have a mild form of
motor dyspraxia, the cause of her clumsiness and stuttering (she hears things differently than most).
Age 14: Moves from Stuttgart to Berlin with her mother; language barriers ensue.* Father refuses to visit or be visited. Starts smoking.
Age 16: Begins reading Shakespeare. Begins having dreams of her past life. Marcus dies in a car accident.
Age 17: Suicide attempt. Hospitalized for blood loss and depression (approximately 6 months). Stops remembering any and all dreams she has.
Age 19: Researches and writes a short story (historical fiction) that gets published in a small literary magazine. Beginning of her writing career. Quits smoking for health and, more prominently, financial reasons.
Age 22: First book published.
2009/Age 25: Awakens as Noah's Pleasure, damage to her inner-ear largely repaired thanks to the Earl's dark matter enhancements. Still struggling with clumsiness and stuttering but it's improving. Sent to the Middle East with her brother Sokaro, becomes extremely strong and much more confident; looses her stutter and clumsiness.
*When living in Stuttgart she was raised speaking Swäbisch (Swabian), a specific dialect of German that is notorious for being all but unintelligible to Northern Germans (i.e. those who live in Berlin) who speak Hochdeutsch (literally "high German"; the stuff you'd learn if you took a German class in America) and vice-versa.Shut up I'm a German language nerd. It was greatly exacerbated by her stutter.
On Joyd:
Joyd has started to become significantly more active. Something of very important note that she is not aware of is that in its quest to consume all of her, Joyd has started to slowly wear away the Earl's seal on her memories. She has remembered snippets of her past life now because of this, though she refuses to speak to anyone about it and mostly just refuses to sleep/drinks heavily to keep herself from dwelling on it, or classifies the memories as lies, tricks of the Order, or if nothing else, unimportant. After being killed by Alex in the DR she
spoke face-to-face with her Noah, managing to convince it to stop trying to consume her until she had figured some things out. The
conversation she had with Road shortly after coming back to life essentially nullified this compromise and gave her the "okay" to be consumed; Joyd is no longer meeting any resistance beyond her lingering fear of being consumed, but can only take over so much of her at a time. Additionally, as the Noah eats more of her away, she begins to remember more of her old self.
On Innocence:
She feels strange and oddly guilty about destroying it. Its refined form still wounds her of course, but there's a nagging connection to it in the back of her mind. Because she is biologically/spiritually (more or less) the same person she was in her past life, she is still technically compatible with her old Innocence, were she ever to be exorcised and come into contact with it.
Why she fights/Justifying this whole "Noah" thing: Love for her family (Road especially), indebtedness to the Earl for fixing her ears, and a surprisingly deep-seated hate for humanity in general. After having been beaten around so much by family, "friends" and people in general, it didn't take much more than Noah bloodlust for her to slip from "timid and bitter" to "raging and jaded." Plus, it's fun.
Other notes (Headcanon meme post is
here and then
here):
-Refuses to admitthat she was reincarnated but more or less knows it's true
-Sound-based Innocence attacks will harm/discombobulate her more readily than they would someone else. If they're bad enough the dark matter in her ears will fracture or even break and revert her to her pre-Noah level of clumsiness or worse. She has essentially learned to balance on her own enough that they only cause her physical pain now.
-SMOKES again, thank you
cardio_swindle and
my_pleasure you guys got her back into the habit :|
-Generally weirded out by the idea of traveling to other worlds beyond a person's home and the DR. She does not want it to happen to her, ever.
-
Cell Rolon is in the cover page of a small journal she carries with her at almost all times. The advantage to this is that she can close the book to shut it up.
-February 27th, 2010 saw the "birth" of one baby named "Joy" a' la
tophat_n_babies's world's method, which apparently involves some odd sorts of magic and chemistry and no sex whatsoever. Her unofficial father/co-care taker/daddy♥ was
my_pleasure. After he left the DR on April 24th, 2010, she left as well.
-She's less experienced compared to other Mirandas when it comes to drinking. Being a Noah lets her drink more than the average woman her size, but she didn't rely on alcohol as a means of escape from her uselessness like other Mirandas. She's gotten extremely proficient at drinking as a method of dealing with her dreams and Joyd in general.
-Writing is another way of her dealing with Joyd, but the poems/stores she produces as a result of this are eerie and incredibly surreal (think Lewis Carol meets Alfred Hitchcock). They tend to be filled with gore and somewhat ramble-y as well.
