This may solidify me in nerdom, but I'm completely okay with that. I was not one of those kids that grew up adoring Star Wars. I knew what it was, kind of, and enjoyed the movies whenever they were on. But that was really as far as it went. When I got laid off a few months ago, I began making weekly treks to the library, since now I had a lot of time on my hands. While browsing the new books, I came across something shiny and silver and discovered that it was a Star Wars book that took place a few years after Return of the Jedi. Since it was so pretty, and I can admit that I judge books by their covers, I decided to pick it up. And guess what?
I really liked it.
If you enjoyed the movies, and you like sci-fi, I think you should pick them up and give them a try. I think starting with Heir to the Empire (Timothy Zahn, Book 1 of the Thrawn Trilogy) is a great place to start, since you're familiar with a lot of the characters from the movies. I'm on my fifth book in the fandom now and they're just good old-fashioned sci-fi fun.
