It is most unlikely that we will all live to such ages. A scant few do in the best of places. [In Victor's time.] I do not appreciate such unnatural acts by the Admiral. It is most impolite.

I also have a request from those who are not as human as others. I would like to hear stories of your lives, if you wish to share.

What is it that you want to know?

I want to know of your life. Of your achievements. What you have felt.

[Achievements. What are those?]

I am from a relatively small Pride. I had three wives, and after their passing one relationship with a human. I had twelve children, all of which survived to adulthood and reproduced themselves. I served as commander of a Glorious Heritage Class cruiser, and have been a soldier for most of my adult life.

May I ask sir, what is a Pride? And was the act of having three wives most common? Furthermore, what is a Heritage Class cruiser?

A Pride is my collective family. Not all that unlike a nation. We're chosen by our wives, so it's only as common as there are women willing to choose us. They pick men according to the traits they would want their children to have. I was chosen by three. I have seen Alphas with as many as fifteen.

The cruiser was my starship.

I do not wish to offend you, but that system is most strange indeed. Does it not create much tension among households?

It was a starship as the barge is?

Our entire lives are nothing but tension and competition. Therefore we're usually simply grateful to be in the presence of healthy children, knowing each member of our family excels individually because we have the affection of the other.

It's shaped differently. But the idea is the same.

I do not know if the idea is the same. This sounds most distressing to me, in truth.

The ship or the marriage? I was referring to the ship.

The marriage, I am afraid. It seems most strange.

It was a happy one, until my death.

I doubt a man could ask for more than that.
