It's not illogical, Victor! Have you ever thought... [He's trying to calm down a little,] Have you ever thought that as much as they can cure all of these things, they can quite possibly cause them too?
[He knew there were actual, decent painkillers. He'd learnt about them, but he suspected there were more sinister ones too.] And I'm sure those pills are fine and normal and work, but they might not always want to give you something like that. They might want to cause harm. I just want to be here to make sure they don't cause harm and only make you better. Surely that makes sense.
[He paused, took a long breath, trying to appear calm and rational] Let me see your hands and what you've done.
