I do not desire another warden. Do not send one to me, Admiral. I have no need for such a keeper. I wash my hands of this business. [Said with a great deal of conviction, like it's really going to happen ( Read more... )

What... are you looking to find out from them? [interest. it is here.]

I wish to discover how it is that they work. How this electricity was harnessed.

Oh, well, that's a decent enough quest.

I've got some things which I'd like to figure out how they work, actually. But... you can't have them, sorry, I... I worked hard collecting these.

[pause]

Why are you giving up on some Useful Work? Do they overwork you, or treat you badly?

My discoveries will also be useful. Merely in a way that is different to the work that I formerly did. Also, working in the infirmary was most pleasant. The staff who work their are kind, decent people.

Yes, but... only useful to a handful of people, instead of the general population?

Really? So you didn't see anything... unusual?

So it is. [Victor doesn't sound like he cares much.]

[Private]

No, sir. Our infirmary is not that kind of hospital.

I don't think you get to pick and choose who you help.

[Private]

What kind of hospital, exactly? I'm a little unfamiliar with your time period myself.

And yet I have chosen. So it is.

[Private]

The type of hospital that is willing to sell the bodies of the dead to those who would use them for science and less savory ends.

I can't imagine it'll last long, though.

[Private]

I see. I... that's a new one to me.

Is there anything, um, unsavoury at all that goes off in there?

I do not wish to discuss this thing.

[Private]

In the infirmary? Of course there is no unsavory business. Unless, of course, one inmate happened to sneak in their with murder on his mind. But that is not the fault of the staff.

Then... I'm not sure I understand why you're rejecting the work. Can't you do a bit of both?

I have no desire to continue the work. I wish to fully dedicate my limited energies to my new route of discovery.

But it's... surely you'll do more good for everyone by being in the infirmary.

How can you know such a thing? I may be a terrible doctor.

I'm not sure they'd have employed you in the first place if you were.

This is so. You use logic with some cunning, it appears.
