[Victor is leaning heavily against his desk, looking very unwell indeed. On the desk there is a two way radio that has been pulled into tiny pieces

I am only fairing well in the presence of ah... Lord Fanny, it seems [It is the drag that gives him pause, it's the name 'Fanny']. The flood is causing us to have to be in someone's company that we are not fully acquainted with.
You may tell me of your research, and also... I have improved. Thank you. And yourself?
[Private Video]failedcreatorSeptember 26 2010, 12:14:42 UTC
I have encountered this wonderous lady. Her choice of naming is most original, and possibly a statement comparable to the woman of the barge wearing pants. [Yup, Victor still hasn't gotten the memo on that one.] I wonder, in such a case, what company I am urged to seek out?
I fare well, apart from the persistant sickness of this flood. I am glad to here of your own improvement. [He found it rather disturbing.] As for the research, I was inquiring as to whether I may now obtain your permission to conduct scans of the brains?
[Private Video]failedcreatorSeptember 27 2010, 00:29:59 UTC
It is perhaps a more spiritual form of pants. [Yup, that made sense to Victor. Metaphorical pants.] Also, if I do not know this person, I am unclear on just how I will be able to find them.
That is most excellent. I will make sure that no harm results. Unless the tricorder machine is capable of damage? [He hadn't thought to ask before.]
[Private Video]empirical_dataSeptember 27 2010, 00:34:57 UTC
She may wear physical pants as well, though I must say that spiritual pants is a concept that has not yet been presented to me. [He shifts his eyes, because he has to create a whole new file just to contemplate that.] I will have to think it over.
[Private Video] Pretend I didn't type and "now" is "not" up there, because "now" is worrisome.empirical_dataSeptember 27 2010, 05:20:44 UTC
Perhaps more modern than even I, Victor.
[Another pause. Oh this sweet, darling madman.] Then it was very good of you to show concern for those that you intended to scan. [Even if he only asked after Data verified that it wasn't harmful. Even little nudges is improvement.]
[Private Video] I wish there was an edit function for when there was already a reply. :cfailedcreatorSeptember 27 2010, 07:48:16 UTC
Certainly more modern than I am, even with the influence of this place.
Yes, I did not think it good to take parts of their brain. I may have been able to repair such a thing, but I suspect it would have been a strenous process. [Victor, afterall, knew all about the brain. Based on the science of his time and his own... experience.]
[Private Video] For reeeeally stupid typos I've asked for do-overs before.empirical_dataSeptember 27 2010, 07:54:52 UTC
[Especially impressive given his time.] It will not be required in this instance, as I am sure you gathered empirically from your study of your own physical form.
...Would you like to see mine when I am not in close proximity to someone I am not fully acquainted with?
[Private Video] I've been close to that before. :cfailedcreatorSeptember 29 2010, 10:39:06 UTC
Yes, this is so. Although I may not have noticed if parts of my brain were removed. Large parts of it are do not contribute to useful processes, after all. [He smiles, so very sure of this 'knowledge'.]
[Victor thinks about this for a moment.] Would this be the act of comparison by use of the tricorder or another method or examination? [Victor does not look comfortable with the idea of the latter.]
[Private Video]empirical_dataSeptember 29 2010, 10:51:49 UTC
Actually, in later years they discovered many parts of the brain are quite useful. What was largely considered "background noise" was discovered to actually facilitate imaginative thought. The purpose of this biologically was to create hypothetical scenarios so that a human, or any being with similar activity, might be able to protect themselves. As the brain developed cognitively, these processes began to encompass larger portions of the brain and could render theoretical results relating to complex problems. For these parts of the brain to function, one must "daydream" or be asleep. If you aim the tricorder at your own head, set it to record, and ponder something for a bit, you may return and witness the areas of activity.
Comparison with the tricorder. ...Are you afraid of seeing more? ...My best friend, an engineer, told me that it made him uncomfortable as well. I was rather complimented that he disliked thinking of me as someone who needed repairs, but I considered him one of my physicians.
[Private Video]failedcreatorSeptember 29 2010, 11:01:51 UTC
[Victor is probably going to replay that message, copy it out onto paper and spend a while comparing it to text books.] I will do this with the tricorder. Although it will be valuable to have minds to compare with, as mine is obviously somewhat abnormal? [Based on ye olde theory that bad people have bad brains.]
It would indeed be uncomfortable to see more. [Victor looks uncomfortable.] I do not desire to see you as simply a machine to be dismembered. [He picks up a piece of the two way radio and puts it back down on the table.]
[I love it! I was all like 'A WAVE OF SCIENCE!' because seriously. Awesome. <3]
[Private Video]empirical_dataSeptember 29 2010, 11:13:06 UTC
[Oh, the saddest look in the world he gives you, Victor! Complete puppyish sadness.] ....Victor, you are brilliant. You were simply afraid, and then you were angry. Those are perfectly normal emotions to have in response to what happened to you. The only thing abnormal about you is your extraordinary adaptability, and that is something that should be cultivated so that you may help people.
[His look softens a little.] ...Much of me very much resembles a human internally, as well. Simply with lit circuitry. I have lungs and a digestive system and a fiberoptic spinal cord. So now you know, and you do not have to look. [Fond expression? I think so.]
[Private Video]failedcreatorSeptember 29 2010, 11:22:02 UTC
[Victor just looks and feels guilty that he made Data give him that look. He initially interprets it as Data being disappointed at him, but the expression lifts a bit as Data continues talking.] Such emotions were not normal to such an extent. I will and do attempt to help others, but that does not change the fundamental problem of biology. [Victor turns away from the camera for a second to gather himself, before turning back to the camera for the slight change of subject.]
It is good, that these things inside are so similar to what is... human. [Deep breath there.] I prefer to know than to look.
[Private Video]empirical_dataSeptember 29 2010, 17:56:51 UTC
I am... not a counsellor. But such emotions are only the consequence of a chemical imbalance that can be easily remedied. There are medicines to treat it, as well as some simple coping mechanisms. There is a kind woman who works in the infirmary by the name of Libby that might be able to assist you.
Is it because I am your friend, or because I am a machine? Would you not wish to perform surgery on someone close?
[Private Video]failedcreatorSeptember 30 2010, 00:12:22 UTC
Medicine? For the mind? [Victor looks more than a little bit uncomfortable with the idea.] That does not seem to be a very natural thing.
[Machine, really. Victor would do surgery on a friend without blinking an eye. But he's not going to say that.] I imagine that it may indeed be a mix of both. In any case, my last attempt to assist you was not successful. [Ah, the haunted house plot returns.]
You may tell me of your research, and also... I have improved. Thank you. And yourself?

Yes, you may do so. As I said, be certain to ask first and verify no harm will come to anyone.

It is now. Whoever is scanned is perfectly safe.

This is good. I was concerned that it might take segments of the brain.
