One of the saddest things is to be connected to a society that has no real place for you. People need people, even if those people are rather different. I know this firsthand.

That is quite true. There is nothing crueler than to experience this, or to force it upon another.

We found a place in our society, but even in Whitechapel we had to hide our strangeness from all but one person. We didn't want to scare any of them, we just wanted to help. Before was lonely. Belonging was wonderful, even if it was sort of...qualified.
