For whatever reason! Maybe the canon took a turn for the terrible and stomped on every aspect of it you'd loved. Maybe the fandom was like a nest of vipers on bad drugs. Maybe you just look back and think, "WTF, I spent how many hours of my life on that?"

Brought to by a nonnie on the last post mentioning Kyou Kara Maou, which was such an unpleasant fannish experience that I can't even see the series title without feeling cranky. How could such a fun show produce so many unpleasant fans?

(No ill will towards you, KKM-watching nonnie! Enjoy the series as you like, just be glad you weren't around when the fandom was actually active and tearing pieces out of each other.)

Aw, KKM-watching nonnie understands. I've been in some shittastic fandoms myself, and frankly, reading the fic has been a deeply disappointing experience.

It's a fun series, but man, the fandom was the worst that I've ever been active in.

Everything CLAMP.

I'm torn about CLAMP because on the one hand, I still like a lot of the fic I wrote for their works, but on the other hand the CCS fandom was one of my worst experiences ever.

Glee. Do I really have to explain why?

I wish I could say "it was fun while it lasted" but honestly the fandom was wanky and the canon was garbage right from the get-go. The rose-colored glasses have fallen from my eyes.

Glee was frustrating and unsatisfying even back when it wasn't a total trainwreck, and the fandom is bitter and full of infighting. I wish I hadn't wasted three years of my life there, no matter how fun it seemed in the beginning.

I sort of wish I'd never wasted time on a show so frustrating and terrible but the fandom friends I made were so great that I wouldn't ever take it back.

This fandom had a lot of wanky assholes, but there were some really awesome people there, too, who I'd never have met otherwise.

All of them.

Next time I love something, I'm staying away from the fandom.

I am enjoying the hell out of Doctor Who by staying far, far away from the fandom.

I finally realized I'm just not built for fandom. I do NOT handle conflict well and basically think every single fandom argument is ridiculous (does it really matter which paring or character is best? Someone's favorite is always going to be someone's most hated and someone's most hated is going to be someone's most favorite.) Then there's the analyzing everything to death and coming up with a thousand reasons why is sucks and yet people are still watching it...

IA with everything you said, sometimes I'd get stomach ache just seeing other fans go at each other. I was in this fandom where people treated each other like shit, the way people talked to each other, the backstabbing, the name calling, always trying prove how idiotic the other side was, the gloating.

I don't know if it's just that I've had horrible fandom experiences but it's left me feeling to a lot of people, a big part of fandom is about proving how right they are, "winning," and making other fans miserable.
