(Meme is looking so orderly today. I like it.)

Vegan anon here, I'm eliminating soy for a while to see if it's what's causing my allergies to play up so badly of late. This sucks because I have serious love for tofu.

One of my main tofu-delivery systems is stir-frying, so I'm wondering if people have suggestions for protein-y things to put in vegetable stir fries that are not soy-based. Cashews, maybe? I'm open to all suggestions/recipes that don't involve mushrooms!

Another vegan who despises mushrooms? Nonnie, I love you!

I love beans myself. If you go with Indian flavours, you're pretty much set. Chana masala is my favourite, but rajma's a close second. I'm not sure about Chinese or Thai flavour profiles - I just throw beans in my Chinese dishes anyways, but I'm not sure if that's authentic.

Seitan!
Which goes nicely with cashews.

Isn't that that gluten-based stuff that's usually sold as 'mock duck'? *is not vegan or even vegetarian but is kind of curious about some of the 'meat substitutes'*

Yes. I've also seen it called "vegetarian [beef/chicken/pork]", which is just weird.

Very non-vegan anon here: cashews are great in stir-fry. Beans are also great, with the added bonus you can find dozens of kinds that can be cooked in all sorts of ways.

You can melt peanut butter or almond butter into a stir fry - I mix it with hoisin and sesame oil, adding peanuts or slivered almonds.

Looking to introduce my baby to things which actually have flavours now he's happily nomming most solids, and he so far loves a mild thai green curry. I'd like to make other curries, preferably ones we can eat too, but I could use some decent recipes.

Much prefered -- "wet" curries with lots of creamy or tomatoey sauce

How do you all keep a clean tasting spoon without going through the whole drawerfull every time you cook?

If it's going to be cooked, I don't bother. Otherwise I use the sink.

Just rinse and wipe? I feel like there ought to be hot water and soap involved but that seems like a pain to do repeatedly. I was actually thinking about keeping a jar of no-rinse sanitizer on the counter (http://www.amazon.com/Midwest-Homebrewing-Winemaking-Supplies-Mid-7517/dp/B0064O7YFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393806603&sr=8-1&keywords=star+san). I brew so I have it available, but it seems a little weird. Thought I'd ask if anyone else did something similar.

DA Yes, but that's how I survive with one wooden stirring spoon. Stir soup: rinse off spoon. Stir stir-fry: rinse off spoon. Stir soup again: etc. What kind of person uses a new clean spoon each and every time they stir something? (OP, you can also use 1 spoon per pot if you have them, and set the spoons on a spoon holder (like a plastic lid) in-between stirring.)

What else were you expecting? You're using one spoon, you're concerned about potentially spreading germs, you wash it.
