How are your favourite sports going, nonnies?
Anything weird happening in sports RPF fandoms? Want to discuss your latest Geno Malkin/Alex Ovechkin masterpiece (with Ovie as a bottom for once)? How cute Grigor Dimitrov is in a sombrero? If Michael Sam's going to be drafted, and by which team?

I want Michael Sam to be drafted by anyone except the Cowboys or the Skins, because I want to buy a jersey and wear it, and those are the two non-negotiable teams I won't wear a jersey of.

For the Skins - is it a team thing (like, you're a fan of a rival team) or a 'don't want to give money to sport racist logo and/or Dan Snyder' thing? If the latter, there's some cool locally designed off-brand merch that lets one rock burgundy and gold without giving money to the Skins.

The latter. Thanks for the rec - I'll think about it if he's drafted there, but I'm not sure if I could bring myself to do it even then. Not while they still use that name & logo.

I selfishly hope that once he's drafted there will be a lot more media attention for his missing brother: www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/sam_julian.html

I know that statistically there must be some gay players in my favourite sport (tennis), and I just keep wondering which ones they are. Ugh, boys, the ATP *should* be one of the most welcoming sports to gay players (and the WTA's had gay players for ages without problems), but I guess nobody wants the added stress/complications/media frenzy.
I'll just have to continue loving my WTA lesbian soulmates in the meantime. :) Looking at you, Casey Dellacqua (who never talked about her private life until she came out and announced her son's birth in the same breath - "oh hey I have a girlfriend and we just had a baby MY LIFE IS AWESOME"). And of course Martina wins at pretty much everything always.

I think it's just that very few players outside of the top 15 or so are ever asked about anything except tennis. You probably wouldn't know it if a player ranked no. 73 had a girlfriend, either, because most tennis journos are barely aware that he exists in the first place. Statistically a gay player would be more likely to be on the "journeyman" tier of the ATP, and nobody would ever know anything about his private life unless he brought it up himself

Yeah, I guess you're right. Eventually maybe there'll be a player both good enough and gay enough to feel like disclosing. It just seems strange that there are relatively so many out WTA players but absolutely none on the men's tour.
Given the fiscal strains of the tour - only top 50 really make a living, with maybe 50 more just scraping by - I'm almost a little surprised some clever gay or bisexual journeyman hasn't realised yet that they might be able to gain sponsors & endorsements by coming out. I guess it'd depend on what country they were from, though (obviously no Russian's coming out in the near future, for example).

It's spring training, my At Bat app is allowing me to watch games when I'm not at home (but not enough of them are televised,) and my favorite pitchers are not injured yet (but AJ Griffin pitches tomorrow, have crossed fingers and toes) so everything is beautiful.

I was riding the spring training games high for all of a day, then it was announced my team's top prospect would miss this entire season because he needs Tommy John (Twins, Miguel Sano).
Usually I'm not into this kind of deep anguish over this team until at least mid-April...

I dunno, I 'gave up' (tbh, I am never quite in on them....) on the Twins when they decided that Mike Pelfrey was a solution as opposed to a problem. I like Pelf and am amused by him but liking him is not the same thing as trusting him.
Wasn't Sano broken in winter ball? Didn't they learn anything from Scott Baker and Pat Neshek?
The team should be entertaining for certain values thereof but I won't be attending any games in April, that's for sure. Even to see Griffin pitch for Oakland...too cold

He was still training this week, but then felt an "odd sensation" and that was all she wrote, I guess.
I'm now a long-distance Twins fan and so won't be attending any games by default but we've already ponied up for mlb.tv for the season, and... well, there will surely be lots of suffering in our living room starting a month from now.

Me too, nonny. I hope he's still alive, even though that hope seems slim.
