Fandom Fail the Third: The Chicken Rides at Midnight. (FFA Post #3)

Jul 23, 2010 19:19

The Chicken rides at midnight. It has an assignation with the Baby Lllama to plan an assassination (character or lack thereof).

Afterwords, they will go to see a man about a Turtle.

Almost anything involving fandom and  fails is on topic.  Mods take a wide view on fandom.

Entire meme is a choose not to warn experience.

I found reading all the ones in the last post to be very therapeutic.

How hath fandom grievously wronged you, nonnies?

I hate that I can spend hours on a portrait, end up with a result that I'm really proud of, and still not get as much attention as I do with a terrible sketch that I spent ten minutes on from a more-popular fandom.

It's the same for me, a fic-writer. I try not to actually post anything that's legitimately half-assed, but I do get way more comments on stuff that is pretty much more-of-the-same for the more popular pairing, but when I spend a lot of time and effort really trying something new and different, it generally gets ignored.

It burns all the more because fandom is constantly carping about how everyone just writes these couple popular pairings and no one ever writes gen or really different stuff, yet when people do try to branch out into other stuff, no one cares.

Urgh. Yeah. My most popular story is one that I wrote six years ago. It's OOC, doesn't make sense, is unbetaed and I wrote it in two hours. I hate it. My other stuff is good too.

So, anyone else out there remember Mia Skywalker and Selenity Jade's messy breakup all over the 0-DBZ-Fanfiction ML, and how it completely nuked the fandom? (A new generation eventually showed up, I'm sure, but it halted the fandom of that time in its tracks.)

I still want to know where Mia moved on to and what other names she's used. I'm sure she continued to bring the wank and the lulz wherever she went.

Why does everything need an ontd_spinoff these days? Is ONTD really just CAPSLOCK!-fandom - capslock key?

Doctor Who somehow managed to get not one, but two ONTD spin-offs.

It's because ONTD is taking over LJ. One day we're going to wake up and the entire thing is going to be under their control.

I get irked when people jump all over writers for admitting they write for praise, or comments, or fandom status. Apparently writing is supposed to be a horrible, painful slog for Art and nothing else.

Likewise, I'm weary of people signing up for Big Bangs and then spending the next four months angsting and bitching over them and forming support groups. If it's that painful, don't do it already.
