I was thinking about what is FFA. It's a fandom meme, but we spend a lot of time talking about other things too. Though from the name, one might expect the "other things" to fall under the category of "fail" (or wank), in reality, I feel like a better catch-all is "identity." Now, this overlaps with fandom often (we are a fandom meme too, of course), but I think enough of it shows up for it to be a big part of the meme in its own right ( ... )

It's an Avengers, Les Mis, Hockey RPS, Supernatural meme, actually. Fandom is much too broad a catchall.

As for the rest, I kind of can't be bothered. I burned out hard on the concept of identity and how one identifies in college, where I swear it turned up in a basic math course. I suspect this is where a lot of SJW types picked it up and it trickled down to the 14 year old on Tumblr.

No kidding. There's a small but solid group of gamers and manga/anime fans here, as well as a bunch of people into music groups, western books, the shonanons, etc, etc, etc. We're not as numerous, but cutting us out of a description of this place is really insulting, especially by someone contesting that it's a fandom meme. It certainly won't continue to BE a fanom meme if you insist on erasing multiple groups hanging out here!
