Church sucked.  It was retarded. The pastor started talking about how he saw a homeless man with a sign that said "Will work for food" and he was like "WHAT WOULD JESUS'S LOOK LIKE?" and he pulls out a huge cardboard sign that says "Will die for sins". My dad tapped me on the shoulder and gave me an exasperated look.  Then they had a bunch of ( Read more... )

Hello, I'm a Fundie trauma survivor. sicksadie April 13 2009, 04:35:29 UTC
A few years back Mum (agnostic) and I (atheist) were invited by family friends to come to one of their church concerts. We were a bit wary but thought "eh, just a harmless concert and sermon. It'll be good for a laugh".
We pulled up to this huge glass building. Wholesome families and beaming teenagers everywhere. Mum snaps at me to hide my devil bag in the car (only bag I had, brought it without thinking).

We walk into a large hall with seats and a well lit stage. The room felt warm and cosy. Minutes later the concert begins. Imagine TOOL but with an upbeat Christian vibe. Alrighty. The second band bounces on stage, asking "all the kids to come on up to the stage! Raise your hands and reach out to Jesus!" They then started working these kids into a trance. All these teenagers with their hands in the air, sobbing and heaving. Mum's all "shiiiiiiit" and I'm dragged into the crowd by my friend.

This goes on for about 40 mins. We're asked to sit down. A man who claimed to be a former Klansmen launches into this speech about how Goths and gay men are ripping out the heart of society and how they must be stopped. He is pissed. Everyone goes berserk. Good thing I left the bag in the car.

There's more. Near the end of the service/brainwashing, those who hadn't made "contact" with the church before were asked to go into a room to fill in some details. My friend drags me into the room. The room was packed with howling, sobbing teenagers. Jesus Camp stuff. I was shitting myself. I signed the forms with fake details and a few insults, hugged my friend, and left.
