I went to my first Sacred Harp singing Sunday evening with Bay Area Fasola. It was a quarterly, four-hour singing of hymns plus a potluck dinner. Ever since hearing the music during my Jan term class on Christian music, I've always intended to try out something as primitive and powerful as shape note singing. The community there was welcome and encouraging; they managed to make me lead by the second song (which, as it turns out, isn't nearly as hard as it looks as long as you have a scrap of musical knowledge). As a cool side note, I met at the singing one member of Anonymous 4 (one of the finest a capella women's groups I know).
In other news, in regards to piping, the Irish Pipers of San Francisco have recruited me to be a piper during the slow months of summer (finding me via Facebook). With my main band, the Stuarts, not competing this year, and a considerable amount of time being on my hands I very well end up going up to the city to practice with San Fran's flagship band.
And of course, it's officially, as of Tuesday, been one month since I left both Spokane and Gabrielle. How I miss both so much. :(
