Maybe it's a little early for craving cool dips in pools, but the
weather we had here this weekend seemed to suggest different.  It
wasn't even May then!  But now it is.  Those European pagans sure knew
when to throw a party.  And how.  But that's not why I celebrate the
first of May.  Spring is my favorite favorite season, especially
during the winter.  It's a pity that it flees like a flying flitter.
I complain about the heat, but at least there's no mud and no
mosquitos, so I can enjoy the cool evenings outside when we're lucky
enough to get them.

May was always a great month throughout my childhood, since our school
year never rolled over into June.  Going to school was so much easier
when only a few weeks remained.  I will readily admit that autumn
weather can be every bit as nice, but it's harder to enjoy when you
know there's an entire school year ahead, and that the weather is only
going to get worse.

I don't have the luxury of summer vacation anymore, but I think I
still have the sense that I can take things a little bit easier during
the summer months.  There's more daylight to enjoy and more excuses to
be outside (think baseball!).  It's easier to ignore the dishes and
the messy living room and the cluttered desk that wants organizing.
Not that those should be neglected - certainly not!  But I'll forgive
you if you leave them (maybe not the dishes) until the season is over.
 Who cares if the living room is a mess if you can spend the evening
lounging out on the patio, or strolling through the woods?

Priorities change in the summer.  Maybe that's the point.  You can
stop planting and hoping your seeds will germinate, but don't forget
that you have to pull weeds and keep watering.  Change can be good -
just don't neglect the sunscreen.
