I saw this movie a few days ago. I didn't know very much about Nixon and the Watergate scandal but I had in mind the essential of the affair and what it is about. I got interested in this movie by seeing it was directed by Ron Howard.
The story is about the preparation and different stages of the interview conducted by David Frost, a newscaster/show host, who is facing a resigned Richard Nixon, but not repentant. It would be question of Watergate, but also of the Vietnam war and his politic of the United States.
Frank Langella (Nixon) is absolutely fabulous in it and so is Michael Sheen (Frost), a damn good piece of acting. They give a extraordinary perfomance. The interview scenes show the great interaction between Langella and Sheen, filling it with tension, suspense and entertainement.
The second character are also not to be forgotten like Kevin Bacon, Sam Rockwell, Matthew MacFaydyen who give the whole thing a nice background.
Ron Howard produce a 2 hour dynamic drama but I haven't seen the hours gone by. And I even think a little bit longer would have been fine.
I know this film won't appeal to people in general but I advise you to see it if you like a movie with suspense, wit and really well directed by Ron Howard!
