...For the next two hours, I'm going to run around in little circles," says Matt at 7:30 this morning.
On Thursday afternoon, Nikole, a friend at work, showed me a link on PetFinder for a 2-year-old malamute who needed a home. She was well socialized with humans and animals, so I thought, why the hell not? I sent Matt the information and emailed the shelter to find out more. I didn't here back on Friday, and thought about the fact that she's in foster care because of her seizures. Sure, we could take care of seizures.
Friday morning, Matt's friend John posted to his livejournal that a malamute puppy in Seattle needed a home. We had already been talking about getting a dog sooner rather than later and Matt knew at this point that I was interested, so he got more information on the puppy. He's 8 months old and was found tied to the mailbox of his owner's house in the rain. When the woman who found him stopped to pet him, the owner yelled, "Want a dog?" So she took him in and started looking for a home for him. He's been living with her, her two kids, two dogs, two cats, two birds, and one pot-bellied pig since Sunday, but has shown much too much interest in the pig to be safe, so he needs a permenant home.
Matt and I talked it over Friday night... the rescue dog with seizures is in a stable situation. The puppy in Seattle is going to be euthanized if the owner can't find a home for him soon and the foster family can't keep him. So Saturday night we hopped in the truck and this morning we met our new dog.
So without further ado, here's a photo of Matt and
Baldr:
As far as we can tell, he's not full-grown yet. He's 85+ pounds of pure muscle and ripped a ham shank to little bits in about 20 minutes. He's also the sweetest thing; he loves to sit on your feet and lean whil eyou pet him. He was quite good on a leash, though we'll have to train him out of his pulling habit. Matt's working from home this week so he'll never be unsupervised until he gets used to us.
Next week: news about kittens!
