graduate school

Yesterday I made the mistake of looking into grad school programs. There's a program at Yale for sacred music that would get me two degrees (or more!) in a rather short span of time. However, I've discovered that they seem to only teach Christian sacred music and only the old stuff, at that. Where's the fun in that? Music is a vibrant, changing entity. Why do I have to study the ancient bones of music that people don't listen to any more? So I looked into the auditions for conducting and composition. Wow... I need to have video of me conducting and three recordings of compositions for different ensembles. I'm so not ready to apply to Yale.

On the other hand, I feel like I'm pretty on top of my game at Reed for the first time. Ok, maybe I felt that way for a little while last semester. Well, I've got a few years of remedial music classes to take before grad school is a possibilty, I guess. What could I do in my year (or two) off that is better than studying music?

In other news, an interesting meme from Kevan.org: What do you think of me?

music, future, school, memes, self
