I suppose now is as good a time as any to write a bit about my current classes.
German: Yes, this is the same German class I was in last semester. The novelty of taking a new spoken language has worn off and now I'm dealing with some issues I had with French in high school. I hate doing busy work every day for homework when what really teaches me the language is speaking it a lot. On the other hand, I still love the language. Though if you were to ask me about the German case system, I might go off on a rant... I still love my professor. He's charming and funny and never speaks too fast to understand.
Song: So nearly all of my musical friends are in my song class. This is Ginny's first time teaching it, so it'll be a learning experience for all. So far we've listened to cool music and kibbitzed about it. I'm sad that it's only twice a week, but I suppose that gives me more time to prepare for it. This will be a lot like the choral music class, only I'll be more invested in it, since everything I learn might be on my orals.
Singing things: In chorus we're singing the Mozart Requiem. This means that it's smooth sailing for a semester, though the chorus is now twice as big as usual. I'm planning to audition for the solos. Because I'm awesome. Collegium hasn't met yet, because Ginny has to fill some spaces and she still doesn't quite know what we're singing this semester. I have heard a rumor that she's invited someone really cool to sing soprano. (I won't say who, just in case it's not true.) My private lessons are going to be interesting. I'm trying not to take too much on, but Barb wants me to do more and more and more! There's a Cabaret this semester and already I'm singing six songs in it. Goodness me!
Thesis: I'm supposed to be working on my thesis right now, but I arrived at the computer lab to find David meeting with Chris, the prodigal music major. That took the wind out of me, so I had to come up with other thesis related things that I could do besides the actual composing. I prefer to compose in peace and quiet... or at least be able to ignore it if somebody's listening. I can't ignore either David or Chris, since they're all composey and stuff. At any rate, I had a breakthrough with my current song last night. It's in 7/8 and it's very hard to compose if I'm not TOTALLY INTO IT.
Meeting/Movements: Well, I've only had one of each this semester, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. Movements was better than I was expecting. I don't like the teacher's style and the pianist has no rhythm. And yet the class had the desired effect on me. My biggest problem with is was that I was dancing on concrete. Wow, does that hurt the knees. There's a new guy in movements and meeting and I'm not sure what to make of him, but the rest of the crowd is still there. They explicitly told me that they were glad that I'm back in meetings. I guess I'm not just the quiet new girl anymore.
