nearly there

As an informal tradition amongst Reedies, it seems that making a list of end of semester obligations is the norm. So, I guess I'll make a list:

-first chapter due Nov 28 (four rough songs) -- Turned in on time with minimal fussing with computer issues
-evaluation paper for Choral Conducting -- I have all of my notes, I just haven't written it yet
-choral concert -- Done and done. I'll write more about this.
-last German test -- Finished on Thursday
-German skit -- Turned in... to be performed on Tuesday or Wednesday.
-pack for home and Thailand -- I'm not even going to think about that until classes are over.

What's a girl to do? I guess I could clean my room. Or write the paper for Ginny.

At any rate, the concert went very well. I started having nightmares about conducting last week. Those of you who were around for my senior year of high school, or who have heard me tell the story, know that my last formal conducting experience didn't go well. I musts say, though, that the Reed College Collegium Musicum is a kinder group to conduct than my graduating class. At our last rehearsal on Wednesday the piece that I conducted fell apart. I left the rehearsal shaking. I had finally come face to face with the fact that the piece I conducted was too hard and we hadn't spent enough time on it. We had an emergency soprano rehearsal yesterday before the dress rehearsal, but we didn't have the whole section. When we ran my piece in the dress, it sounded great, and I felt a lot better about it.

About halfway through the first song in the concert today I started feeling woogie. The Josquin pieces went very well (except for the one that we had to start over) and the Poulenc was decidedly easy. Beth's piece went swimmingly. My piece came and went and nothing fell apart. I was so relieved. The rest of the concert was like taking a walk in the park. All that hard Stravinsky stuff? Piece of cake. All it took was the effort to continue standing and holding my music up.

At the afterparty Nicki provided us with a giant bowl of setsumas and another of carrots and dip. I feasted on orange things and giggled with the collegium crowd.

I don't want to write this paper for Ginny... I'm feeling celebraty, or lazy I haven't quite decided which.
