Teachable Dialogue, part I

Aug 20, 2009 00:15

This derived from a conversation with a friend, Gus, over ze Yahoo chat. I rework it here because I think it's a pretty good summation of much of my personal philosophies and the logical/emotional framework from which I derive most of my day-to-day interactions, romantic or otherwise...Nick: I have a personal motto, actually: I say it to Topher ( Read more... )

its been my experience with humans that there are two factors that determine society.

Greed and Laziness. If there is no profit to be made its given to the back burners, and if we can get other people to do it instead of us then so be it.

It's really a sad way to run a society but I see it everyday and what can you do?

Humorously enough, the conversation that led up to the one I just posted was about Health Care Reform, and my assertion that those crazy fuckers who keep bringing guns are the first sign of impending wide-spread Civil War - which my room mates have pointlessly talked me down to re-defining as Civil Violence...

In the politest way possible: Gus leapt immediately and exuberantly at the chance to prove the motto you stated at the outset, and just kept on offering proof after proof.

Please, please, please never let the pop psych types tell you you're damaged or hurting when you're not. Rather let the few rational persons you know 'kiss it and make it better' with the full understanding that a kiss doesn't need a booboo to justify itself.

Well, Topher is also disturbed by that motto (we're arguing about it as I write this). I agree that it was a bit frustrating; I'm still trying to assert that social pessimism is simply the product of pattern recognition, and Gus is convinced it all stems from my personal experiences. Pop psych really isn't doing anyone any favors, is it?

Heh, well if you enjoyed reading this, just wait til you get to the wire-monkey rant...

I miss you a lot sometimes. I wonder how my vibrant emotional personality would have been serenely tempered by your reason, and how much of my fire would have broken down your isolation from the world around you.

Those are good questions. I've wondered myself, sometimes. :)

Well, maybe eventually we'll find out. Topher and I still haven't decided where we're going to move when we're ready to get away from DC (won't be for a couple of years, but there you go...)
