Unnecessary Review

I watched "Underworld III" last night. I know that pointing out the flaws, logical fallacies and continuity errors in these movies is a bit like wrestling a two-year-old. However, since I've been told that I shouldn't be so critical of the Transformers movies because "they're summer blockbusters; they're supposed to be shallow fun", I feel it's ( Read more... )

In the third movie, the only time Victor interacts directly with a non-slave human, he throws him into a wall. He's trying to instill fear in the other humans: why not show him drinking one? Wouldn't it be more effective than just being able to snap their necks?

The impression I got (just an impression, mind you) was that the humans weren't entirely aware that they were dealing with psychotic parasitic creatures of the night. They likely suspected, especially after Scary Display of Strength, but they didn't seem to *know*.

And as to them not nomming on humans, it's my understanding that doing so just tends to make humans even less co-operative (they're scared for approximately as long as it takes for them to find a bunch of mates with pitchforks) and that just makes life difficult. So it could well be avoided for convenience, or plain forbidden. The way of dealing with it is to either have or to 'trade' with farmers. Since it's very unsightly and disgusting to nom from a living pig or the like, we get the more dignified glass situation.

The rest... yeah. It was a bit bad, wasn't it. We just switched off and went "ooo shinies" for most of it. We've learned that's what the UW films are for.

That said it was significantly better than the abomination that was Evolution.

Edit: Also, the Michael thing. The point there was that they were unsure if he'd be able to take solid food at all (ie whether he'd lean to vampire or lycan), and the answer was a pretty painful no. More a question of whether he could only take blood than whether he needed fresh meat. Feeding from Selene was less likely to compromise his Cute American Moral Integrity in the eyes of the viewer than the poor dude he nearly tore up in the bar which to me is why they didn't show anything like that.

I know that feeling, and am slightly worried about the number of movies for which that is the only response that will allow you enjoyment.

Yes.

This is why the only good vampire movie this year came from Sweden. Not quite enough of a reason to go expat, but it's enough to make me glare significantly at my countrymen every time I see this sort of thing. Integrity is nice, but if there's nothing compromised, there's nothing gained. Also, I couldn't help but wonder where she got all that nice, tasty blood from...

Thanks for the reply!
