So today I talk about the rad comics I read at the bookstore.

Because I totally have a habit of doing that whilst waiting for transportation I'm too blind to get for myself.

So the first one is called Grand Guignol Orchestra, which I picked up because ANYTHING WITH GRAND FUCKIN' GUIGNOL IN THE TITLE HAS GOTTA BE WORTH A LOOK. And of course, it was naturally rad as hell. Basically, it's a zombie comic with a gorgeous Victorian aesthetic  and a main character that is one HELL of a delicious sexy trap. So trap and his merry band form this travelling orchestra, which goes around playing bitchin' music and also SLAYING THE FUCK OUT OF ZOMBIES. WITH THE MUSIC. If that doesn't exicite you then you're probably dead inside.

SPEAKING OF DEAD INSIDE. Comic number two. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. This one's a comedy which takes place in a high school, which whilst normally not my deal, manages to be so laugh-out-loud absurd that I can't help but adore it. The main character, the Mr. Despair of the title, is essentially my ex in a kimono.(HI I BET YOU'RE READING THIS AND IF YOU ARE IT WASN'T MEANT AS AN INSULT. :d) In other words, smart, handsome, badass, but SO PESSIMISTIC HE COULD FIND A REASON TO DESPAIR OVER A BUCKET OF KITTENS.  The other characters are his various students, which all happen to be a personal trainwreck of various mental issues, which the entire first volume spends introducing. The next of them cover various sundry subjects such as hibernation, wishes, openings, and gross-outs, all with like a billion pop culture references both Japanese and otherwise. You kind of need to be an otaku to get this comic, though thankfully at  least in the American release there's an index in the back that explains the jokes.

So ja. That's what I've read lately. I recommend both of them if they seem like your cup of tea.

nerdery and otakudom
