Carbonara is an alfredo yes, but it's kicked up with extra parm cheese and black pepper so it's totally different and totally nummy! Ever since I forst learned of carbonara I don't make normal alfredo anymore, I figure anything that you can put alfredo on you could put carbonara on without really ruining anything.

Isn't alfredo just parmesan cheese? At least that is what I've been told. So you add black pepper and more cheese and get to call it, carbonara?

I suppose this shouldn't surprise me. After all, aren't most pastas exactly the same? Change the shape and you get to call it something else entirely.

Pretty much yeah, alfredo is butter, heavy cream, salt and parm. Double to triple the parm and add pepper(freshly large chunk cracked black normally) and VOILA carbonara.

And yeah the shape and\or length or width is what determines the different pastas. Linguine is I think approx 1\8 inch wide, fettucine is approx 1\4 inch wide, other than that they can be made of exactly the same thing. Even something as small as whether it has ridges on the outside makes the difference between penne and some other obscure pasta.

Yeah, I love the Smart Ones. We've been getting some Healthy Choice meals lately too, and some of those are also pretty good. If you haven't tried the "Southwest Style Adobo Chicken" Smart One, I highly recommend it.

Sounds like it might be something for alendark to add to his list. I'm so picky when it comes to fresh Mexican, I'd hate to waste money on TV Dinner Mexican.
