The Forest of Hands and Teeth by
Carrie Ryan My review
rating: 4 of 5 stars
Maybe even more of a 4.5 stars out of 5.
This is one that I had purchased after hearing mixed reviews. They did tend more toward positive (even hesitantly) than outright DO NOT READ, so I heard Zombies and snatched it up.
I have to say that overall, I was pleased. For a YA read, it didn't tread the happy, shiny pathway that most tend to gravitate towards. It made me think of Pretties by Scott Westerfield in the romantic dynamic between Mary and the two brothers. I won't go more into it than that, but if you have read both books you might see what I mean. (Or maybe not...)
The only thing that I have to say negatively about this book is that the ending seems rather rushed. I have been told that there is a sequel coming, so I am going to refrain from holding that against it completely.
I don't know that it holds much for re-readability, but if there is a sequel, I will probably re-read it when that comes out just for a refresher on all that Mary's been through in her past.
(If it doesn't pick up with Mary's story, then I will probably just rip out a couple chunks of my own hair and move on with my life...)
