'Junker?! Did you hear what that purple-belly called Serenity?'

'Serenity' I and II, 'The Train Job', and 'Bushwacked':

Such fun! I love the humour. And I love the characters. All of them, which is a nice change from BSG.

It's funny, trying to twist my brain around a new show. 'Firefly' is so different from BSG. Serial, rather than linear in plot; relatively small core cast; Serenity as a family, rather than Galactica as a family; lots of planets, each with their own story and culture; constantly changing villains; multiple languages.... Classification-defying, indeed. It's so interesting.

The Reavers creep me out beyond words. They are probably some of the scariest bad guys ever invented.

I love Shepherd Book. Zoe is awesome. Kaylee is adorable. Wash is great, especially his excellent quotes. Zoe/Wash is heartwarming and humourous by turns. I begin to understand why Jayne has a fanbase (although I would never join it, myself), and it amuses me immensely that the most macho character in the show has a feminine name. Even Inara is growing on me, although I still find her a little bland. Simon and River are, I think, the only ones of whom the film gave me a reasonably accurate impression.

Mal is growing on me, too. I definitely had to see the show before I understood his appeal, but I'm starting to get it now.

Jayne/River, however, I do not get. At all. I'm just not seeing how a ship managed to form there.

Regardless, I'm enjoying it. What on Earth went wrong that the show was cancelled after only one season?
