My women's group met last night and we have a prospective new member!  Her daughter picked up a flyer at Diversity Days  and gave it to her.  She called the Patchwork Princess, our current president, to find out about our meetings and came to check us out last night.  She's had real experience in the community and knows the ins and outs of fundraising using the local businesses.  The meeting went kind of long last night as she gave us really good insight and fresh ideas.  And she seems pretty committed to joining!  We're still in membership trouble.  we have 7 members but one of us is not under the age of 40--state bylaws require that each chapter have 7 members between 18-40, they don't care how many members you have older than 40, but there must always be 7 members under.  It's kind of a stupid rule.  I've sat through numerous explanations as to why it's in place, and I've had to argue that side of the argument in meetings, but personally I find it mildly offensive and definitely difficult for us to maintain.  However, maybe this new member can help us be more visible in the community and we can attract other women in the "desired" age group.

Our new meeting place is Caribou Coffee in town.  They have a conference room that they'll let us use for the purchase of a $25 gift card, which can be used to purchase beverages and food during the meeting.  It was a nice place to meet, but we're going to try to meet there without having to buy the card and just not use the conference room.  There are a couple of cozy corners that we could use.  Definitely better than the Health Center or the church.  I mean, we had a prospective member turn up our first night! :)

My brother's baby is being born as I write this.  My sister-in-law's c-section was scheduled for 9:30 this morning.  We'll stop by the hospital on the way home from work to see them and my sister-in-law, who is now on hospital bedrest for the next 2-3 weeks.  I'm nervous about seeing my brother as I haven't seen him since before all the family drama, but we've had some good and productive phone conversations, so I think I'm making something out of what will be nothing.  We're bringing the afghan I finished for the baby.  The lines are actually straighter than they appear--I was rushed to take the picture so I didn't lay it out right.
