In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love...Pride and Prejudice.
::sighs:: I've had a P&P (1996 version) fest all weekend, and now I've had to return the DVDs back to the school library.
Enter withdrawals.
Lizzie rocks, a true sarcastic wit. Darcy is a jerk you love to hate, then just love to love. Mr Collins KILLS me with his endless "Lady Katherine de Bourgh" references (and the Lady herself is endlessly entertaining in a pompous sort of way). The characters are perfect. The only complaint I have is that the final "proposal" scene falls just a bit flat -- mainly in that we never see the second proposal.
Some favorite quotes, because I'm a gigantic nerd like that:
"She is.. tolerable i suppose... But not handsome enough to tempt ME.." (Lizzy, imitating Darcy)
"You have allowed me to hope as I never scarcely allowed myself hoping before, dearest, loveliest Elizabeth." (::gasps:: Dearest, lovliest Darcy)
"She looks sickly and cross. Yes, she will do for him very well. She will make him a very proper wife." (Lizzy, of course.)
"You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." (::sighs:: Darcy again.)
"We neither of us play to strangers." (I think I'm in love, Mr. Darcy.)
And that scene where he asks Lizzie with all this intensity if she would not want to be close to her family, all out of nowhere. And when he defends her "fine eyes" and general beauty to that Michael Jackson look-alike, Miss Bingley. And his eagerness to find out if she likes Pemberley. Oooh, and when he's all wet -- all three times. And about a million other things...! I just love this movie. It really brings the book into a whole 'nother realm for me. Jane Austen is officially my hero. You all have to forgive me -- the withdrawals, remember? LOL.
And in case I haven't mentioned it, Colin Firth looks damn good wet. Dear God in heaven.
