Questions from the lovely
harlotqueen. Should you wish me to ask you some questions then comment :)
1 - What was your best ever cup of tea?
Now that is a question. This changes pretty much constantly, helped by my appalling memory.
I had an utterly delicious Ceylon in a cafe in Munich in August which was vividly orange in colour, with a lovely fresh flavour and an overall feeling of warmth. As I'd been feeling rubbish this tea really lifted my spirits.
Though part of what made this cuppa stand out in my mind was that it was also served with apfel strudel and cream on a balcony table with a view of random women dressed as brides running in and out of a massive fountain for a photographer.
2 - Do you have anything that you truly regret?
I don't know. I try not to have regrets for with every bad things that I've done or that's happened to me - burned bridge, homelessness, redundancy, abusive boyfriend - something positive has come as result of it. So nothing springs to mind. I can be both tactless and spiteful on occasion though and there are no end of things I regret saying. So many that not one of them sticks into my mind. If any of you reading this have ever been on the end of this then rest assured I really AM sorry!
3 - Where do you see yourself in 5 years time
Right now I just don't know. There's a lot of 'stuff' going on, career, health and relationship (by which I mean with friends and family as well as the more typical meaning of lovers) wise that I actually have no idea where things are going. Generally it's all pretty positive so somewhere good seems likely :)
4 - What was your favourite book of 2010 and why?
I haven't read many new books this year, either recently published or just new to me, mostly because I've been ill and my brain can't cope with it. This means my favourite book of 2010 is pretty much my favourite book ever. These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer. I think I read it four times last year, one of which was to
freedrinkdave for story time*.
It's essentially a romp through France and England of the early 18th Century with kidnapping, cross dressing, an odd but sweet love story and all of Heyers usual humour. It makes me happy and I love it.
5 - Which historical figure whould you most like to meet?
Beau Brummell. Stemming from my Heyer love. I've read a lot about him, both as fictional appearances in various different media and a few more factual things as well. He was a man who came from a relatively ordinary background and managed to reign as king of the ton for many years before debt finally drove him from the country. He essentially lost everything in not just keeping up appearances but also in establishing the mode of the appearance. It would be interesting to meet him in his french years (before he got ill and insane) and see whether he thought it was worth it.
Also he could teach me how to tie a cravat! ;),
*nearly every night before we go to sleep I read a chapter (or two) aloud to us both.
