So, for those of you who don't know, this week began the evacuation of Israeli's from the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip. It's been a 38 year occupation of the land...38 years of suicide bombs, civilian attacks, fighting and political vendetta's.
Members of the Jewish faith migrated to the Gaza Strip, a 'country' known as Palestine. Although, without an official recognition from the UN, Palestine was not an actual country, so the UN gave Israel the land, as compensation for all the years of torment and prejudice they endured during WWII and the surrounding years. Palestinians were livid, to say the least. Their land, their homes, were just given away to these people. According the the Jews, that land is their "homeland", it was theirs hundreds of years ago, and they wanted it back.
I suppose that's why I had such a problem with it. America belonged to the Native American's hundreds of years ago, I'm sure they would love their land back, should we give it to them? You know, the pagans had to put up with witch hunts and being burned at the stake, etc...can we have all of our land back? No, that's not how it works. It's not yours anymore, there are other people living there now, and they're not even the people who took it from you in the first place.
All these years, American News stations have showed us over and over again how extreme the Palestinians 'terrorists' have been. suicide bombs, dangerous protests...But it's not like they're the most organized of people, it took them by surprise, to suddenly have these people taking over their homes, they resorted to the only form of protest they knew. I suppose it's hard for us in America to understand that sort of desperation...but when you're blinded by anger and confusion, you do extreme things. And what's interesting, is now Israeli's are reacting in much of the same way...one shot and killed three palestinians in a bank, another set herself on fire...
I am glad that the palestinians are getting their land back, but I do sympathize with the people who are having to pack up and leave their homes now. I really admire Ariel Sharon...he told asked his people not to attack the uniformed officer's forcing them to leave, or the palestinians, but to attack him instead, saying it's his fault that the evacuation is happening.
I just wanted to type out all my thoughts, sorry for boring you. ^_^.
