So I had a ridiculous fever on Thursday and realized that being sick and alone (especially at night)is probably the worst feeling in the whole world. It was ok during the day, though, because all my neighbors so sweetly took charge of me. Ewanna breezed in and played mother for a bit, opening my window, making me get under the covers, and giving me speeches about what a pig I am. (I maintain that serious illness is a decent excuse for a room in shambles.) Julien came over and watched a movie with me and made me eat an orange (for vitamins) and take drugs when I started shivering uncontrollably, and Paula made me drink a huge pot of piping hot tea and go to bed. And everyone else just kept popping in to let me know that if I needed anything, to just shout or knock. In short, they took really good care of me. Good enough care of me that I felt that I could still go to Paris Friday night.
I got on the train and plopped down and heard a voice behind me saying hi... figures I get on the same exact train, and sit one seat in front of the only American in my classes that I really like, my friend Jared. So I had company on the train, even though I was going to Paris and he was going to Lyon. In Paris, I figured out (after a confusing half-english half-french telephone conversation and a better texto) how to get to this kid Jordan's house by RER. I met Jordan and his friend Bastien last month at the club, and they'd invited me to Jordan's for a small party, this weekend. Their friend, Donald, met me at the RER station and brought me to the house. He's wicked cute.
Anyhoo, we had an awesome time. Jordan and Rémy played some guitar music and showed me some really impressive computer animations they've done. We ate some pasta with little penis shaped ones mixed in (for Bastien, who's gay), which I refused to eat, because Donald wanted too badly to see me eat one. I somehow got him to try to waltz with me, and then I was giving waltz lessons to all four of them. Jordan started playing a waltz on the piano and I tried to dance it with Donald, Rémy, and Bastien, but it was too fast for them. It was great fun! We watched a weird American movie that I still don't understand, named Mugullen Drive or something like that, and then listened to Jordan rant for a half hour about it's genius, while everyone else sat around shaking their heads in confusion. Then I played my first game of Smash Bros in France... and let me just tell you that I kicked every single one of their asses. Repeatedly. It was so great.
Some great quotes from this weekend:
"If ___ (a girl in our class who pretty much refuses to speak French) ever becomes a translator, it will be because the French language has been reduced to only 25 words;" -Jared
"It's stinking. -Bastien eating sardines
Rémy: "Comment dit-on 'cravate' en anglais?"
Me: "Tie."
Jordan: "On a les x-wings et les ties..."
"You will be declared the cigarette war." -Donald
I actually stayed in Paris till 1 am, this morning but I don't have time to type the rest right now, so maybe later.
