I wish more people could see gender as a spectrum, instead as an "either or" kind of thing. There's no room for expansion or exploration. Instead, we're born and certain expectations are given to us. If we're good, we play by the rules. If we're not, we bend or even break them.
I can't imagine being other than what I am, but that doesn't mean I buy into all the crap society feeds me about what it means to be a woman. I will be no man's wife. I will bear no children. I will not have dinner on the table each night at six. I won't wear skimpy clothes, or cover my face with makeup. Those things aren't me.
I'm under an enormous pile of review books, as you know, but what is the name of the memoir you read? I wish to add it to the list of things I hope to read someday.
