This entry is partly to celebrate my new journal theme (check it out! nifty!).
But mostly it's to do something I really ought to have done a while ago: obsess about Megan Whalen Turner's books.
Now, first of all, my family read these (my mother about a year ago, myself a month or so ago, the others thereafter) because Lois McMaster Bujold (that's right, just one of my favorite authors ever) recommended them on the Bujold listserv. Our favorite author. Recommended these.
"These" are: The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, and The King of Attolia. AND THEY ARE AMAZING.
One caveat: I am more madly in love with these books than the rest of my family; they regard me as a little bit obsessed on the subject. Quite correctly.
But, I mean... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eugenides... is... is... words fail. There are no words for how awesome he is. Not to mention Irene. And Costis. I love Costis. But it's mostly Eugenides. Even if I don't really have the faintest idea how to pronounce his bloody name. Oh, and I almost forgot the Gods. How silly of me. Although, I suppose, there again, it's mostly Eugenides. *stifles somewhat hysterical-sounding giggle*
Oh, and Megan Whalen Turner reads Bujold, too. There's a not-too-terribly subtle reference to Civil Campaign in King of Attolia, which makes me really happy. Also a direct quote from Howl's Moving Castle. (You wouldn't know it's a direct quote, except that she said so.) Actually, that one's in both The Thief and King of Attolia.
So, yeah. READ THESE BOOKS!!! If you are going to come into much contact with me soon, it will just be a matter of self-defense, because I will burst out laughing at random inappropriate times, or smile to myself, or mutter a quote, and you will be much happier if you know what the hell I'm thinking. And anyway, they're just *good books*.
Well, now that I've convinced you all that I'm a crazy person, Good night!
