adventures in dining

So I spent the day with my Kyoto Sensei today. He took me out to Doutonbori, we watched a Japanese play, ate doteyaki, takoyaki, akashiyaki, and taiyaki, then drank some sake. He was super surprised that I like sake, even more surprised that I drank it in America, and extremely surprised that nigori sake is my favorite!

We walked around a bit, he showed me how to throw water at Buddha (mizu something or other I can't remember how to say it anymore), and then we went to Tennoji. He took me out for even more food and sake. I had hilesake (fish tail sake), and he convinced me to eat fugu! For those who don't know fugu, it's blowfish. Yes, I ate poisonous fish! It was actually fairly tasty, and had an excellent texture. I don't know if I'll be brave enough to ever eat it again, don't want to press my luck, but I'll now be able to tell my grandchildren that I ate fugu, and impress the peeps back home. ^.~ I don't know if I'll tell my mom though since she might just have a heart attack.

Ended the night with badly sung karaoke, and now I'm back at home and about to get ready for all night nomihodai (all you can drink) at a club. Unfortunately it's a gaijin club, but maybe I can meet some more nice local nihonjin and learn a bit more Japanese and Osaka ben.
