Here I am in San Francisco. Sitting at my laptop with high speed unlimited access in our hotel room. Troll is taking a nap in one of the beds tuckered out from our morning in Fisherman's Wharf. We had taken a tour of the Bay that went out to the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz so the sea air tired the troll out. I have my window open and live ( Read more... )

San Francisco is the place to be. staciadevi October 26 2004, 06:05:39 UTC
..my adopted family is out there. I have zero clue how I missed your original post about going there. Spaz!

You should go to the Noe Valley section of San Fran, allllll the way down Castro Street. There's one store in particular I just know you'd dig. I don't recall the name of it, but it's a few doors down from a FABULOUS eatery called Savor: 3913 24th Street, San Francisco, CA 94114, (415) 282-0344. (I remember something yummy with crepes & avacadoes at Savor..but EVERYTHING there si incredibly delish.) A few doors down on the same side of the street, there's this funky import shop that has all kinds of gewgaws I know you'd adore - masks, paper lanterns, great jewelry. Also, on Castro by the intersection of that cross street there was a clothes store called Coton Basics whicvh had great, simply-cut clothes in mostly earthy tones, all squishy cotton. Yummy.

If you like Books, closer to where you are styaing is an excellent bookshop called City Lights. It was one of the mainstays of the Beat Movement.

& of course, there's the way overpriced Haight-Ashbury district.

But do get to Noe Valley if you get a chance. Very cool.

Ah, San Francisco, I miss ya. I'm so jealous that you're there! Have fun!
