Ladies and Gentlemen.... A Rant.

The link above leads to a very brief article on yahoo. It talks about how Twilight and its successive books have made it onto the challenged books list.
What the hell kind of world have we gotten ourselves into where people think they have the right to dictate to me what I or my children can read?? Some of the books on that list? Catcher In the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird... seriously... have the people who complained ever really picked up those books and read them?
So CitR has the word fuck in it. Once. And seriously... it was used in a manner that I totally support! Kids shouldn't read To Kill a Mockingbird because of racism?!! That's the whole damn point *TO* read the book. Kids should learn about racism, they should know about how crappy we've treated and still treat people based on skin color or other less obvious reasons. Thats how they learn *NOT* to do it!
Dammit people, stay out of my damn library! Byron and I are the only people that should decide what our kids can and can't read.
It scares me how close we are to a Fahrenheit 451 type of situatioin.
