While I disapprove generally of this kind of thing, I do find it entertaining. Puts me in mind of those child leashes one occasionally sees parents dragging toddlers around on, though the similarity is only metaphorical. It says in the article that they're not going full GPS with this at the moment. Which is too bad, frankly; I'm sure they could do some fascinating social interaction studies. A fellow in the AI lab I hung around was trying to get computers to identify intentions from movement based on game exercises he had subjects running using trackballs in a simple 2-D virtual environment, for example with one player assigned to avoid and the other to pursue. This kind of data ought to be much richer, if more complicated.

And who needs privacy, anyway. In the world of tomorrow you'll be able to put on your 'net goggles and see people's names and some relevant information floating above their heads on the street. When this happens, geeks will finally lose the last distinguishing element between real life and RPGs. There will be fatalities.
