PSA: Original characters in fanfiction
The following public service announcement is courtesy of my number one pet peeve.
If you are writing an NCIS fanfiction and, against all better judgement, decide to insert yourself as Gibbs' long-lost second daughter Rayne, please keep in mind that YOU DON'T OWN THAT CHARACTER. You created her entirely out of the intelectual property of a third party, so even though she doesn't exist anywhere except in your fanfiction, she does not belong to you. Therefore, your disclaimer should not read, I don't own NCIS. Wish I did. I do own Rayne Shannon Gibbs, so please don't use her without my permission. Read and review!
