So I signed up to take a drawing class for six Monday evenings. A friend of mine is teaching it, and I know she is patient and kind with almost-non-artists. It's the friend who insisted on guiding me through framing my piece for the State of the Union art show.
I am really looking forward to class. I am unable to draw right now, but I remember teaching myself how to paint Warhammer 40K miniature models. I remember when *boom* suddenly I understood the basic principle of -seeing- a model in order to capture a look. Seeing the shadows, the desired lighting, the relative angles of the details. I am still working out the techniques, but it seemed to me my major hindrance to painting was being able to -see-. Once I got that, the whole world looked different, not just the models. It was one of those whole-world-shifting moments.
I think the drawing class will be similar. Once I learn how to properly -see- what I want to draw, then it will be down to technique. Eh, or not. Regardless, I think this will be fun.

For these things are fun, and fun is good."
