this is really good - it seems weirdly nostalgic to me, and kind of heartbreaking in its matter-of-fact fatalism. we will never see gray.

Nostalgic was just what I was going for. And, yeah, matter-of-fact. They know they're going to die young; they've faced death nearly every day. It's not a new thing for them.

This was gorgeous. I love the shift of first person plural and singular, and the way you make it a variant on outsider POV even though it's Dean and Sam's voice. And I love the way you fit the theme by making the whole thing feel timeless, like it all blurs into a single, displaced moment.

Thank you! It took longer than usual to shift things around until I had the story where I wanted it because, yeah, the POV and voices kept swapping around. And YES to the single blurry moment--there's one shot I had in mind of Sam and Dean slowly driving by some house in Season 1 and that was what caught this for me, how people look at them and must think, "Who the heck are those dumb kids?"
