Solar Cooking!

Jul 08, 2007 18:39

I just finished eating a baked potato, cooked with sunlight. :) It was yummy, but I would cook it less next time.

I became interested in solar cooking when a plastic flower pot I'd left in a metal bowl had lines melted/burned through it from the focused/reflected sunlight. So, I downloaded the solar cooking plans I found here: http://solarcooking.org/plans/Plans.pdf and built the solar panel cooker from cardboard and aluminum. I also bought a couple of black pots with lids at a thrift store.

I had water nearly boiling in it the other day. Today I tried a potato. Maybe next I'll try cornbread or a meat dish. It sure beats using electricity and heating up the house!
