I don't know her, but I wish I had never even heard of her. Now, it seems, I can't get rid of her.
The first phone calls happened about a year after we moved in. Someone kept calling, leaving messages for a Brandy McGowan. ??? I ignored it for the longest time, we screen all of our phone calls anyway. Sorry, you must talk to the answering machine before talking to us.
Yet, it just wouldn't quit. The phone would ring when I was trying to sleep, in the middle of dinner, or when I was waiting for another call. Finally, I got fed up and called the number.
"Are you SURE you don't know Brandy McGowan?" YES
"Is this a new number?" NO we've had it for a year now!
He sounded extremely reluctant but he finally said he'd take us off the list.
A couple of months later, a different voice is on our answering machine asking for the popular Mz McGowan... I immediately called back,
"I told you people to quit calling, Brandy McGowan does not live here!"
He claimed they had never called us before, asked if this was a new number, asked if we were sure we didn't know BM... Finally, he said he'd take us off the list.
We have had about a year of peace.
Over the past week some automated messages have been left on our machine: "Please call me at your earliest convenience, my number is.... Ask for Kathy." That was it. I assumed it was telemarketing, and that it would go away on its own. But, it didn't. Nearly once a day for a week "Kathy" left us messages.
When yet another message was left this morning, I called the number. I was ready to state my rights as a member of the Do Not Call list and issue a cease and desist notice if necessary.
"What is your number?" XXX-XXX-XXXX
"I can't seem to find it, did we ask for anyone?" No, they just said their name was Kathy
"When did we call you?" About two minutes ago
*she keeps looking it up*
"Okay, it seems we were looking for Brandy McGowan." Oh. My. Gosh.
"Do you know her?"
*insert me venting*
She said she'd take us off the list.
I asked, "Does she owe someone money or something?"
The woman said she couldn't say by federal law.
I said, "Great, when her debt moves to another collection agency we're just going to get called again."
She apologized. I hung up and groaned. There really is no way to get rid of this woman.
Brandy McGowan, wherever you are, PAY YOUR DAMNED DEBTS!!!!!!!!
