"I am so happy, because tonight I get fucked" - some girl i'd never met before
Saturday was La Fête de la Musique, which means both sidewalks and streets were crowded with people and the city was alive with music until the wee hours of Sunday morning.
I went to a party thrown by one of Thierry's friends. By 11pm, we were out in the street, wandering aimlessly and following the music. Our first stop was a folktronica set up. Afterwards, it was just a smörgåsbord of music. I particularly enjoyed the jazz band by St. Paul.
One of the girls in our group kept giving me the evil eye, until she asked me if I had been making fun of her when she was singing in English. Why no, I hadn't. I've watched enough Nouvelle Star that I'm used to listening French people sing in English, thank you very much.
A few hours later--she was very, very drunk and had been making out with some guy. At one point, tired of walking, I sat on a bench. She came to join and asked if we could speak English since she can rarely find an opportunity to do.
"Of course!", I respond.
Silence.
I search for something to say--"So, um, how are you?"
And I will never forget her response--"I am so happy, because tonight I get fucked."
"... Oh," I thought hard of something else to say, "Oh, um, by that guy?"
She nodded, "Yes!"
She later told me that he had been trying to hook up with her for the past month, ever since he broke up with a friend of hers. Out of respect for her friend, she said no each time. Until tonight, I guess.
Later, I told Thierry the story and he laughed because he had a similar conversation with the guy she spent the night with.
By 3am, everyone parted way. By 6am, Thierry and I found our way back to the apartment sans metro or night bus. We took the RER and then a velib (public bicycle). omg that was a catastrophe. But last year, this event was kind of scary. So this year was a big improvement.
