The thing about writing 100-word drabbles is you have to sacrifice literary nuances for the sake of making the word count. Fortunately I've sharpened my Editorial Scythe. The method I used for selecting the interests to drabble about was simple: I picked ones unique to the LJer, interests not blue and underlined.
First drabble, for Kami:
The Amazing Squares went to the park for a picnic. They brought square baskets, blankets, sandwiches, and cakes. But the Amazing Circles had invaded the park with their queer circular items. To eat they had apples and oranges, with M&Ms for dessert. They were sitting and eating on bean bags and seat cushions. There wasn’t a respectable basket in sight.
“This isn’t a picnic,” said the Amazing Squares. “This is mayhem. Get out of our picnic space this instant.”
The Amazing Circles sighed and climbed aboard their Amazing UFOs, leaving behind a cluttered park and some very jealous, technologically-deprived Squares.
And for Kat:
Neil inherited a kitten named Doomie from his late grandmother. It was malnourished and mangy. He didn’t like cats or his grandmother very much, but he never refused a gift. He cleaned Doomie and fed her well, and after several weeks, she began speaking to him.
“Thanks for taking care of me,” said Doomie. “I’m very grateful. Now my future-changing powers can be used again.”
Neil was overjoyed. “That’s great! With a tool like you, I could rule the world!”
Doomie stared and blinked. “I never said I needed a partner. But I’ll think of you while I’m destroying America.”
